Pupils from a County Waterford school recently got a taste of political life, thanks to the support of Cllr Niamh O'Donovan.
Children from 2nd to 6th Class at St. Mary's National School in Touraneena enjoyed a memorable day out, beginning with a trip to the cinema to watch Home Alone 2, which proved a big hit with everyone.
Following the movie, the pupils were invited by Cllr O'Donovan to visit the Civic Offices in Dungarvan. During their visit, the children learned about the role of the local council and how it works to support and develop communities.
The pupils enthusiastically took part in a mock council meeting, engaging in a lively debate on the motion: "Should homework be banned?" They also participated in a vote to determine the most popular chocolate, with Dairy Milk emerging as the clear favourite.
Each child received a goody bag, adding to what was an enjoyable and educational experience. The trip proved particularly valuable for the school's current Student Council members, as well as those who may take on the role in the future.
The school expressed sincere thanks to the Parents' Council for their continued hard work in making outings like this possible and also extended their appreciation to Cllr O'Donovan for her time, guidance and support.
